Courtney Witt, MS, LCMFT, LMFT
Our relationships shouldn’t leave us feeling defeated, disconnected, lonely or hopeless.
I know, firsthand, the struggle of silently suffering under a perceived tough exterior. I grew up in a military family with two parents who served 25+ years each in the Armed Forces. Moving every couple of years, I became all too familiar with making friends, ending friendships, and the recurring feeling of loss. Yet, I worked to understand how fulfilling relationships are formed, how to clearly communicate my needs, and how to give and receive care.
As a biracial woman, I’m intimately aware of the added pressures placed on People of Color. Since systems were not built to support us, independence and self-reliance come naturally. Additionally, I am an ally for individuals from various cultural or social backgrounds as well as different expressions of gender and sexuality.
The work that I do allows us to safely explore your deepest fears and biggest longings, creating space and skills to build trust and expand the intimacy in your most important relationships.
I believe therapy requires a combination of humor, directness, compassion, and stability.
If you’re looking for a 'yes woman' or a therapist that just allows you to vent for 50 minutes, once a week... I’m not your girl! I’m committed to your commitment, so I’m going to make sure you get the most out of our time together. The work that I do allows me to champion your smallest and biggest moments of change and I will always be transparent with you.
My work as a therapist is deeply grounded in offering a counseling experience that allows you to feel empowered, safe, and comfortable. I have a particular interest in helping couples navigate relational issues and individuals struggling to overcome depression, infidelity, anxiety, intimacy issues, motherhood challenges, and other emotional concerns.
In my practice, I utilize an Emotion-Focused Therapy model, which focuses directly on emotions and reconnection; helping you re-establish healthy roles, develop secure attachments, strengthen boundaries, and build emotional and compassionate connections.
More about me
Since I’ve moved so frequently, I don’t necessarily have a place that I would consider my “hometown.” My husband and I decided to plant roots here in Kansas City and I would consider myself a proud Kansas Citian. Clients and friends all know that I’m a lover of coffee, social justice and all things sweets. I’m a working mama that is very intentional about raising strong, brilliant, confident daughters. I have a Sheepadoodle, named Billie Lou, who is currently being trained as a therapy dog to be used within the community.
